Google Citations- major ranking factor
Google Citations are local business listings that help a business become an authority in Google+ Local for maps marketing. That can mean the difference between your listing placing on the first page of Google or not.
Registering your business listing called a citation is a map marketing tool that actually outranks keywords for local businesses big time.
Google Citations- what are they?
It’s important to understanding exactly what citations are as well as why they carry so much importance when it comes to basic page ranking. It is also important to understand how to structure citations and where to list them to leverage this maps tool.
Simply stated, citations are your registered business listing on “Google Plus Local” and they are made up of these three components:
- exact company name
- exact company address
- exact company phone number
Here is what we mean by exact name. You can be Dr. Jim- Cosmetic Dentist. But you can’t vary that name once you register it with Google. The next time you register it with another directory, you can’t be Dr. James, Cosmetic Dentist or Dr. Jim Smith, Cosmetic Dentist. Your name must be duplicated the exact same way you listed it in Google Business Listing-each time you use and every place you use it and register it. Do not vary or you could cause yourself to have duplicate listings, which is another problem we won’t get into at this time. So, register the name and use it exactly how you registered it.
Google Citations- become an authority
Google citations on other sites give your listing authority. Just like one way relevant back links from other sites gives your site relevance and authority, citations do the exact same thing. At once time, it use to be- whoever has the most backlinks wins. Now that has evolved to whoever has the most citations for business listings win. At least this is true when it comes to local map marketing for local businesses.
It works something like this- 10 citations equals 10 votes. The more places you are listed online, the more citations you have and the more Google finds. The more citations Google finds the more legitimate you and your site is in Google’s eyes, and that means authority when it comes to ranking in your niche market.
Google citations- register them
Take another look at the first image on this page. You should register your business listing on all the major directories: Yelp, City Search, Yahoo and Bing to just mention the top choices, as well as the other sites in that image. You should also put your citation in any articles you write and videos you produce and market. It’s a given your citation needs to be right on your website and in your contact page as well.
So now that you know have discovered one of the 10 pillars of Google + Local, you need to get your share of citations. Time is money, but you are more than welcome to submit your citation to each and every directly we provide you. But there is another way. We call it the smart way. You submit to the top 5 business listing directories and let us deliver you between 60 and 80 citations for $29. Why you ask? It will take you a very long time to get that done- hours and hours of time not really well spent when there are so many other marketing projects that needs to get done.
Also, when we do complete your citations, we sill submit a URL report and login and password details in case you need to update the listings or add an image.
